Global Issues Retreat

Session 1: April 9-11, 2010
Session 2: April 23-25, 2010
A weekend retreat in Ohio’s
Hocking Hills presents a chance for international exchange
students and local youth to discover each others’
values and beliefs in a peaceful atmosphere.
Hiking, games, and cultural analysis help to build a feeling of unity and common goals. Sessions focused on foreign policy issues are led by experts, but retreat subject matter is not limited to points of political contention; the weekend also serves as an exploration of the world’s traditions.
The Global Issues Retreat provides real-life interaction which exposes students to each others’ unique viewpoints. The event is open to high school students from Central Ohio.
Past Retreats have featured sessions on:
- Cultural Stereotypes in Comedy
- Islam 101
- Global Perspectives on Aging
- Introduction to Swahili
- Japanese Tea Rituals
- Debating "Gitmo" and Abu Ghraib
The cost of the weekend experience is $70, which covers all meals, lodging, bus transportation to camp from downtown Columbus, all fees and incidentals. Limited financial aid available.
To register for this year's Retreat, call Stephanie Calondis Geiger at 614-229-4599, ext. 403.
